Im Planing to buy a 1930 Ford model A from a man with no pink slip, but knows the history of the car back to the 1960s.
I want to fix it up and one day be able to drive it.
what would I need to know and what kind of papers would i need, to be 100% sure i could register it in my name and be the legal owner?
Thanks For your Help

    1. get a notarized bill of sale, attach a picture if possible, and note any numbers that may show up on the frame or body-some had them, others did not. Also get a affidavit or statement from the seller that he has lost the title. Be sure to keep any previous registration for that car, as it can be used potentially to document the vehicle.
2 Depending upon which state you live in, this should be enough to get a new title and registration.
If you run in to recalcitrance on the part of the dmv personnel where you live, you can purchase a new title from a service such as found at http://www.broadwaytitle.com, they can do youone, and then you can transfer ti to your state.

For antique cars, you can get another title made. This was a real problem for car restorers until the mid 1970s. At that time, many states created a variance to get replacement titles for cars like the one you want to buy. If you run into a snag for some reason, e-mail me. I think I might still have an original ’30 or ’31 Model A title around here someplace.
